“A new baby is like the beginning of all things – wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities”
The first couple of weeks after having your newborn baby can often be quite overwhelming. Newborn sessions give you the chance to relax, sit back with a coffee, and just enjoy being a parent while your baby is in safe hands!
I take my time creating images, not only of what you see, but what you feel. Using natural colours and minimal posing, I photograph your baby just as they are.
When should I book?
Newborn shoots can be done any time up to 4 months old, however to achieve the curled up, sleepy poses it’s ideal for your baby to be photographed between 5-14 days old. As I only take on a limited number of bookings each month it’s important to book as early as possible – ideally after your 20 week scan.
How long does the session take?
Newborn sessions take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours, and sometimes slightly longer. The timings of the shoot are completely run by your baby - I will not rush them as it’s important that they feel safe, happy and comfortable at all times. It is normal for newborns to take some time to settle, and extra time is allowed for within the shoot for feeding, changing and cuddles!
Are family photos included?
I encourage parents and siblings to take part in the photos during their session, even if it is just their hands photographed wrapped around their gorgeous bundle. It’s easy for parents to hide behind the camera, however in years to come your children will ask why you’re not in any of their images. It’s such a lovely memory that you will cherish for years to come.
Where is your studio?
All newborn shoots take place at my natural light home studio in Nailsea, just outside of Bristol. There is a comfortable sofa area where you can settle in, relax and enjoy watching your little one’s first photoshoot. During the shoot, I will use natural lighting and baby-led posing to compliment every aspect of your newborn. I focus on capturing all of those gorgeous little details, such as tiny toes,
delicate hair, gorgeous pouts and perfect flakes of skin.
How do we book??
If you already know your due date, I would advise booking in now to avoid disappointment. Please get in touch via the Contact page – I look forward to hearing from you!
What should I bring?
There are a few things that it would be helpful if you could bring to your shoot. Firstly, if there are any outfits or objects (e.g wooden letters, teddies etc) that you’d like your newborn photographed with, please bring them along. If you have any colour preferences for the shoot, please mention these to me at least 2 weeks before your due date.
If you would like parent photos, I advise to wear a white or light coloured top with no large print or big logos. This will help to create a really lovely light, airy feel within your images.
On the more practical side of things, please bring a couple more nappies than usual and a pack of baby wipes. It’s also helpful to bring a dummy if you have one, even if your baby hasn’t used it yet – they’re a great help during shoots! The aim of the shoot is to get your baby to be as sleepy and relaxed as possible. Therefore, please hold off on feeding until either just before you come, or when you get here (whichever you feel most comfortable with). If you’re bottle feeding then please bring some extra milk as a top up during the shoot for soothing purposes. If you’re breast feeding, just bring yourself!!
